Remote Desktop Servers
Remote desktop servers enable you to control a workstation remotely through a custom window. Refer to Custom Windows - Viewing a Remote
PC for instructions on connecting to a PC (workstation) that has a remote desktop server running on it.
To control a workstation remotely, a remote desktop server must be running on the workstation that being accessed remotely. Any workstation on
the network can run a remote desktop server, including a workstation that has the VMX300(-E) server application or client application running on it.
STARTING A REMOTE DESKTOP SERVER
When you start a remote desktop server, you have the choice of running it as an executable or as a service. If you ever have to restart a remote
desktop server that is run as an executable, you will have to follow the steps outlined here. To restart a remote desktop server that is run as a
service, restart the workstation the driver is installed on, or start the server through the Windows Control Panel Administrative Tools.
To start a remote desktop server:
1. Run the remote desktop server application from the Windows Start menu, or double-click the remote desktop server icon on the Windows
desktop, if there is one. The Configure Remote Desktop Server dialog box opens.

2. If the server is currently installed to run as a service and you want to run it as an executable, click Remove service, then click OK. Repeat
step 1 to re-open the Configure Remote Desktop Server dialog box.
3. Port: Enter the port you want used by clients connecting to the remote desktop server, or select the port from the drop-down list.
4. Mode:
a. Executable: To run the remote desktop server as an executable, click Run as an executable.
b. Service: To run the remote desktop server as a service, click Install as a service.
5. Options: Click Options to specify a password that must be entered to connect remotely to the computer. You can change the password at
any time without shutting down the server. Refer to Setting Remote Desktop Server Options for instructions.
6. Click OK. The Configure Remote Desktop Server dialog box closes. If you are running the server as a service, start the server through the
Windows Control Panel Administrative Tools, or restart the computer the remote desktop server application is installed on and the server
will start automatically. An icon representing the remote desktop server appears in the Windows system tray, indicating that the server is
running.
TIP: You can configure a VMX300(-E) server remotely from a client by having a remote desktop server running on the computer the server
is installed on.
