6.4 Step p er axis - testing
This section describes the method for testing a stepper axis. The stepper control is an open
loop system so no tuning is necessary .
6.4.1 Testing the output
This section tests the operation and direction of the output. It is recommended that the system
is initially tested with the motor shaft disconnected from other machinery.
1. Check that the Drive enable button is
pressed (down).
2. In the Toolbox, click the Edit & Debug icon.
3. Click in the Command window .
4. Type:
JOG.0=2
where 0 is t he ax is ( s t epper output) t o be
test ed and 2 is the speed.
The JOG command specifies the s peed in
user units per s ec ond, so the speed is
affectedbySCALEFACTOR( s ec tion6. 3.1).If youhave nots elec ted as c ale, thec o mmand
JOG.0=2 w ill caus e rotation at only 2 half st eps per sec ond, so it may be neces s ar y to
incr eas e this figure s ignif ic antly, to 200 for example. I f y ou hav e s elec ted a s c ale that
prov ides user units of revolutions (as des cribed in s ec tion 6.3.1) JOG.0=2 w ill c aus e
rotation at 2 rev olut ions per s ec ond. If t here appears to be no s tep or direction output,
chec k the electr ic al connec tions on the bac k plane.
5. To repeat the tests for reverse moves, type:
JOG.0 = -2
6. To remove the demand and stop the test, type:
STOP.0
