PROBLEMS WITH THE ONLINE ACCOUNT
FOR INTERNET USERS ONLY
I keep getting asked for my password after I
am logged in?
For security reasons, and to keep your personal
data secure, if you log in to your BT Home
Monitor online account, but remain inactive for
20 minutes, you will be required to log back in
to continue.
How do I update contact details, either my
own or one of my nominated contacts?
When logged into your BT Home Monitoring
online account, click on the ‘Contacts’ link on the
left-hand side. This will take you to a summary of
your contacts. At this point you can add, delete,
edit and change the priority of you contacts.
I can't get into the website, does this mean my
alarm is not working?
Not at all. The Internet online account and
BT Home Monitoring service (which receives and
handles the alerts) are hosted separately to
ensure that even if we have to undertake routine
web site maintenance, your home is monitored.
In an emergency, if you cannot access your
personal, online account, BT advisors are on hand
to assist in normal office hours. The number to
call is 0870 240 1979.
How do I log a fault with the website?
Contact our BT advisors who are on hand to assist
in normal office hours. The number to call is
0870 240 1979.
OPERATING YOUR BT HOME MONITOR
IN EMERGENCIES
What should I do if I believe a crime or
emergency is in progress at my home, or
the home of someone for whom I am a
keyholder/contact?
Your safety is our prime concern. If there is an
emergency in progress, do not put yourself in
an immediate danger. If you have verified an
emergency, dial the appropriate emergency
service and wait for their arrival in a safe location.
What happens if my electricity supply fails?
Your system has battery backup so it will
function as normal for approximately 8 hours
after any power failure.
What happens if my phone is engaged,
e.g. if I am on the Internet?
The system will always dial out – irrespective of
whether a dial tone is detected. Therefore, it is
not affected by an intermittent dial tone as
created by BT’s Select Service Call Minder. Your
system may also make a call to the monitoring
service when you are at home to register a status
report. This could occur when you are on the
phone or Internet, and could cause your Internet
connection to drop out. It may be worthwhile
considering a second line which can be dedicated
to the BT Home Monitor.
What happens if my line is not working?
In the unlikely event of a line fault, the BT Home
Monitor VP1000 would continue to operate, and
the siren would sound within your home if an
event was detected. The BT Home Monitor
VP1000 system would not, however, be able to
make a phone line connection, and no call could
be made to the BT home monitoring service.
