Glossary
replica set (ZDB specific term)
A group of replicas, all created using the
same backup specification.
See also replica and replica set
rotation.
replica set rotation (ZDB specific term)
The use of a replica set for regular
backup production: Each time the same
backup specification requiring the use of
a replica set is run, a new replica is
created and added to the set, until the
maximum number for the set is reached.
After that, the oldest replica in the set is
replaced, maintaining the maximum
number of replicas in the set.
See also replica and replica set.

restore of a backup object to a certain

a full backup of the object and any
number of related incremental backups.
restore session
A process that copies data from backup
media to a client.
RMAN (Oracle specific term)
See Recovery Manager.

This process always runs on the Cell

RSM (Windows specific term)

manage removable media.
SAPDBA (SAP R/3 specific term)
An SAP R/3 user interface that
integrates the BRBACKUP,
BRARCHIVE, and BRRESTORE tools.

slots in a library).
scanning
A function which identifies the media in
a device. This synchronizes the MMDB
with the media that are actually present
at the selected locations (for example,
slots in a library). It is useful to perform
a scan and check the actual media in the
device if someone has manually
manipulated media without using Data
Protector to eject or enter, for example.
