SmockingStitch[_
Smocking is a delicate decorative treatment on
childlen's clothes or women's blouses.
Choose a soft, lightweight fabric such as batiste,
gingham or challis.
Cut the fabric three times the finished width.
Set the stitch length at "4.5" and sew rows of straight
gathering stitches 1 cm ( 3/8" ) apart across the area to
be smocked.
Note:
Loosen the needle thread tension to make
gathering easier.
Knot the threads along the edge.
Pull the bobbin threads to distribute the gathers evenly
and secure the threads.
Sew the decorative stitches of your choice between the
gathered rows.
Remove the gathering stitches.

Fagoting Stitch
Use this stitch to join two pieces of fabric to create an
open work appearance and add design interest.
Fold under each fabric edge 1.3 cm ( l/2" ) and press.
Pin the two edges to paper or tear-away backing 0.3 cm
(1/8") apart.
Sew slowly, guiding the fabric so the needle catches the
folded edge on each side.
Helpful Hint
You may want to set the stitch width on " 7.0 " for
maximum effect.
