Chapter 2 Installing a PIX Firewall
Startup Messages
PIX Firewall then lists each interface. Because PIX Firewall interface cards are polled instead of using
interrupts, the IRQ (interrupt request) lines can have duplicate numbers:
mcwa i82559 Ethernet at irq 10 MAC: 0050.54fe.eaea
mcwa i82559 Ethernet at irq 7 MAC: 0050.54fe.eaeb
mcwa i82558 Ethernet at irq 11 MAC: 00e0.b600.4520
mcwa i82558 Ethernet at irq 11 MAC: 00e0.b600.4521
In this example, the PIX Firewall has four Ethernet interfaces. The MAC address is a unique hardware
identifier for each interface.
The following messages then appear:
AMCC Chip Address: f880
Indirect Address Register: fc40
Indirect Data Register: fc00
IRQ: 9
If an encryption card is present, the following message appears:
CA9568 Encryption @ 0x3a0
The PIX Firewall symbol appears followed by the version number and the number of connections.
