The defrost controlwill initiatea defrosl cycle if the time periodhas elapsedand the defrost sensor detectsa
temperature below freezfng. At the slart of the defrost cycle, Ihe defrost ControlwUIenergize the reversing valve
solenoid,shift(ng the reversing valve and de-energizingthe outdoor fan. The defrost reraywilt alsoclose, energizing
auxiliary heat for increasedcomfortduring defrost. Theunit will remain in thedefrost modeuntil the defrost sensor
hasdetermined that lhe frost has been removedfrom the coil or a 10 minute time periodhas elapsed.

ing is a briefoutline of the testing of the defrost system.
Thedefrostsensorwilt beclosedat 32° F or below.If temperaturesaresuchthat the switchis notclosed,jumper
between the defrostsensorterminalson the defrostcontrol.
Start the systemin heating operation.
Jumper testpins. A 1/4" quick connectterminalcrimpedonto a solidwireor brazing rod workswellfor testjumper.
Closing test pinsspeedup time intervalbya factor of 256.

T1-30 minutes 7 seconds
T2-60 minutes 14 seconds

Afterclosingtest pinsand appropriatecycle timehaselapsed,the reversingvalveshouldshiftto defrostmodeand
theoutdoor fan should stop. Aftertwosecondsof defrostoperation, the reversing valveshouldshift back to heating
operation and the outdoor fan shouldstart.
SYSTEMPERFORMANCE
For maximumperformanceof this heatpump system,theoperatingtemperaturesand pressureshouldbechecked
and superheat determined at StandardARItestconditionsof 82°F outdoor - 80°F indoordry bulb/67°F wet burb. If
the superheatmeasureddeviates from thevalues in the tablebelow,the refrigerant chargeshouldbe adjustedaccor-
dinglyfor maximum performance.
