notalreadypresentinchimney)andrefractorymortar.
Air Clearances
•MasonrychimneyclearancemustmeetNFPA211mini-
mum requirementof 2inches (51mm)to sheetmetal
supportsandcombustibles.
•Minimumof1inch(25mm)clearancearoundthechim-
neyconnector.
•Top of wall opening is a minimum of 13-1/2 inches
(343mm) fromceiling or4-1/2 inches(114mm)below
minimum clearance specied by chimney connector
manufacturer.NFPA211minimumverticalclearanceof
18inches(457mm)fromchimney connectorandceil-
ing orminimumrecommended bychimney connector

Instructions:
1. Openinsidewallatproperheightforthechimneycon-
nectortoentrythemasonrychimney. Figure 15.1
2. Entryholetomasonrychimneymustbelinedwithan8
inch(203mm)minimumdiameterclayliner,orequiva-
lent,securedwithrefractorymortar.
3. Constructa17inchx17inch(432mmx432mm)out-
side dimension frame from 2 x 2 framing lumber to
tintowallopening.Insideopening offrameshould
benolessthan14inchx14inch(356mmx356mm).

4. Attach the wall spacer to the chimney side of the
frame.
5. Nailtheframeintothewallopening.Thespacershould
beonthechimneyside.
6. Insertthe sectionof thesolid insulatedchimney into
theouterwallofthemasonrychimney.
7. Tightlysecurethelengthofthesolidinsulatedchimney
withthewallbandtothemasonrychimney.
8. Insertasectionofchimneyconnectorintothechimney.
Make sureit doesnotprotrude pastthe edgeof the
claychimneylinerinsidethechimney.
9. Sealtheendofthechimneyconnectortotheclayliner
withrefractorymortar.
