Setting Up Raw Jobs
A raw job is a file you wish to print directly to the copier without
using either of the printer drivers (PCL or PSL). When printing
from an application, the print command sends the job to the
driver. The driver processes the job creating PCL or PSL
commands understood by the target printer.
If a document already contains the PCL or PSL commands, you
can send it directly to the controller. This is a common practice in
AS400, Unix and service bureau environments.
For example, printing using the printer driver to a file instead of
to a device creates a PostScript- or PCL-ready document. To send
this document to the printer you could use the MS-DOS copy
command, such as:
copy test.txt \\twriter20\dssc
This command sends the raw file “test.txt” directly to a controller
identified as “twriter20” in the “dssc” queue.
1 Click the drop-down menus to set these raw job options:
Duplex Printing, Paper Size, Paper Type, Orientation,
Stapling and Output Tray.
2 If these are the only options you need to set, scroll down to
the end of the page and click
Save.
Setting Up Fonts for PCL Jobs
You can set three font-related options for jobs you would
otherwise print using a PCL driver: Pitch (or width), Point Size,
and Font Number. The defaults for these three are:
n 10 pts. wide
n 12 pts. line spacing
n 0, which prints using Courier
Note: These options are not necessary to set for PostScript-
ready files.
1 If the document was created using a fixed-width, scalable
font, the PCL Font Pitch drop-down menu sets the width.
The default is 10 characters per inch.
2 Use the PCL Font Point Size drop-down menu to set the
height of the font in printer’s points.
Minimum size is four (4) points; maximum, 999.75 points.
