TROUBLE SHOOTING GUIDE
(for qualified serviceman)
SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
No spark at ODS 1. Ignitor wire off ODS or Piezo. 1. Check and re-attach ignitor wire.
2. Ignitor wire shorting out on casing. 2. Move ignitor wire.
3. Defective piezo ignitor. 3. Replace Piezo ignitor.
4. Wrong gap from electrode. 4. Set gap at 3/16”.
Spark but no ignition 1. No gas to heater. 1. Check and turn on gas.
at ODS 2. Air in gas line. 2. Hold in pilot knob to bleed air from gas line.
3. Blocked ODS orifice. 3. Blow out ODS with low pressure air hose.
ODS will not remain 1. Safety interlock system activated. 1. Wait five minutes between re-ignition
lit when control attempts.
knob is released 2. Control knob not held in long 2. Press in control knob, light ODS and hold
enough. control knob in for one minute.
3. Control knob not in “PILOT” 3. Turn control knob to “OFF” then without

1/4 turn with wrrench).
6. Defective gas valve. 6. Replace gas valve.
7. Air in line. 7. Bleed all air from gas line.
ODS lights but main 1. Control knob not in “ON” position. 1. Turn control knob to “ON”.
burner does not 2. Burner orifice blocked. 2. Clean burner orifice with low pressure
air hose.
3. Gas supply pressure low. 3. Check supply pressure. Call gas supplier.
4. Weak thermocouple. 4. Replace ODS.
5. Defective gas valve. 5. Replace gas valve.
Delayed ignition 1. Low gas supply pressure. 1. Check supply pressure. Call gas supplier.
2. Burner orifice blocked. 2. Clean burner orifice with low pressure
air hose.
3. Low manifold pressure. 3. Check and replace regulator if necessary.
4. ODS not in correct location. 4. Make sure ODS is properly mounted to
burner bracket.
Flashback 1. Improper orifice burner alignment. 1. Correct alignment.
2. Gas supply pressure low. 2. Check supply pressure. Call gas supplier.
Heater shuts off during 1. Blocked ODS. 1. Clean ODS. See maintenance section.
normal operation 2. Low gas supply presure. 2. Check supply pressure. Call gas supplier.
3. Not an adequate supply of 3. See “Provisions for adequate combustion
