3-Thread Overlock
Balanced tension
(a) The needle thread should resemble straight stitches
to the left of the fabric edge on the topside (1) of the
fabric. The needle thread is barely visible in the
lower looper thread on the underside (2) of the
fabric.
(b) The upper looper thread should lie flat on the
topside of the fabric and lock with the lower looper
thread on the edge of the fabric.
(c) The lower looper thread should lie flat on the
underside of the fabric and lock with the upper
looper thread on the edge of the fabric.
The upper looper thread is too loose.
If the upper looper thread (b) is loose and pulled down
to the underside of the fabric, increase the upper looper
thread tension (red) and/or decrease the lower looper
thread tension (green).
The needle thread is too loose.
If the needle thread (a) is too loose and clearly visible
on the underside of the fabric, increase the needle
thread tension (yellow) and/or decrease either or both
looper thread tensions.
The lower looper thread is too loose.
If the lower looper thread (c) is loose and pulled up
onto the topside of the fabric, increase the lower looper
thread tension (green) and/or decrease the upper
looper thread tension (red).
