Usealonghandledscrewdriverorputtyknifetoremoveanydepositsleftinthe
burnpot,beingcarefultoremovethemfromtheburnpotandnotallowthemtofilter
downintothecradlearea.Excessiveashbuild‐upinthecradlecancausepoorstove
performance(See“Cleaning
theBurnpot,”below).
Turntheashpanlatchcounterclockwiseuntilitreleasesandslidetheashpanoutofthe
stove.
Dumptheashesintoametalcontainer(asdescribedabove)andstorethemonanon‐
combustiblesurfacetoallowanyemberstocoolbeforedisposal.
Slidetheashpanbackintothestove;rotatethelatchclockwise,makingcertainit
catchesthelipabovetheashpanopening.Thestoveisnowreadytoresumenormal
operation.
BecertaintheashpanisALWAYSinstalledproperlyinthestove;anair‐tightsealaround
theashpaniscrucialforproperoperationofthestove.
CleaningtheBurnpot
Alongwithremovingashesfromthestove,cleaningtheburnpotistheotheressentialpart
ofdailymaintenancethatwillkeepthestoveoperatingatitspeak.Pelletscontainvarying
amountsofimpuritiesandfusiblematerialthatwillaccumulateintheburnpotovertime.Some
pelletswillcontainmuchhigheramountsofthesefusibleimpurities,thereforeextravigilance
mayberequiredtomaintainacleanburnpot.Allowingimpuritiestobuildupintheburnpot
canrestricttheair‐flowtothefire,resultinginadirty,inefficientburn.
Alwaysallowthestovetofinishtheshut‐downcycleandcoolcompletelybefore
performinganymaintenanceinsidethefirebox.
Openthemaindoorofthestoveandremovetheburnpotbyliftingitstraightupand
outofthecradle.WARNING–TheburnpotcanremainHOTlongafterthefirehasgone
out,sowearprotectivegloveswheneverhandlinga
potentiallyhotburnpot.
Oncetheburnpotisoutofthestove,usealonghandledscrewdriverorputtyknife,as
previouslymentioned,theremoveanydepositsfromtheinsideoftheburnpot.
Becertainallairorificesareclearandunrestrictedbyfusibleashmatter;afinetipped
screwdriverorscratchawlcanbeusefulinremovingstubbornmatterfromthese
orifices.
Removeanyashmaterialfromthebottomofthecradleandbrushanyashfromthetop
ofthecradleintotheashpanbelow.Keepingthetopofcradlefreeofashiscrucialin
allowingtheburnpottomakeapositiveair‐tightsealwiththetopofthecradle.
Inserttheburnpotbackintothecradleusingthereverseoftheproceduredetailed
above.
