SECTION 3 CARE OF YOUR SOFTENER

3C. KEEP THE SOFTENER FROM FREEZING
If the softener is installed where it could freeze
(summer cabin, lake home, etc.), you must drain all
water from it to stop possible freeze damage. To
drain the softener-

Close the shut-off v_flve on the house m_dn water
pipe, near the water meter or pressure rank.
Open a f:mcet in the soft water pipes to vent
pressure in the softener.
Refer to FIG. ] 2 on page ] 9. Move the stem in a
single bypass v_flve to bypass. Close the inlet _md
outlet v_flve in _t3-v_flve bypass system, and open
the bypass valve. If you w_mt water in the house
pipes _tg_dn, reopen the shut-off v_flve on the
main water pipe.
Unplug the transformer at the wall outlet.
Remove the s_flt hole cover and the main cover.
Take off both drain hoses.

Carefully remove the large holding clips at the
softener inlet _md outlet (see Key No. 6], on page
30). Sepulture the softener from the adaptors or
bypass v_flve.
Remove the brinewell cover _md disconnect the
brine v_flve tubing at the nozzle _md venturi
assembly (see page 30). Lift the brine valve out of
the brinewell. Tip the brine v_flve upside down to
drain out water.

DRAIN WATER FROM THE
SOFTENER
Drain Wood Block
Looking at FIG. ] 1, lay a piece of 2 inch thick
board near the floor drain. Move the softener
close to the drain. SLOWIX and CAREFULLY tip
it over until the rim rests on the wood block with
the inlet _md outlet over the drain. Do not allow
the softener's weight to rest on the inlet and
outlet fittings or they will break.
Tip the bottom of the softener up a few inches
_md hold until _fll water has drained. Leave the
softener k_ying like this until you are ready to use
it. Plug the inlet _md outlet with rags to keep dirt,
bugs, etc. out.
