If you do not follow these instructions exactly, a fire or explosion

A. This appliancehas a pilot whichmust be lightedby
hand.Whenlightingthepilot,followtheseinstructions
exactly.
B. BEFORELIGHTINGsmellall aroundtheappliancearea
for gas. Be sure to smell nextto the floor because
somegasisheavierthanairandwillsettleonthefloor.
WHATTODO IFYOUSMELLGAS
Donottrytolightanyappliance.
Do not touch any electric switch;do not use any
phonein yourbuilding.
Immediatelycallyourgas supplierfrom a neighbor's
phone.Followthegassupplier'sinstructions.
If you cannotreachyourgassupplier,callthe fire
department.
C. Useonlyyourhandto pushin or turnthegas control
knob.Neverusetools.If theknobwillnot pushin or
turnbyhand,don'ttry torepairit,call a qualifiedser-
vicetechnician.Forceor attemptedrepairmayresult
ina fire orexplosion.
D. Do not usethis applianceifany part has beenunder
water.Immediatelycalla qualified servicetechnician
to inspecttheapplianceandtoreplaceany partof the
controlsystemand anygascontrolwhichhas been
underwater.
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS
1.STOP!Readthe safetyinformationaboveonthislabel.
2.Removeouterdoor.
3. Set the thermostatto lowest setting by turning the
watertemperaturedialclockwise,(F-_) to its lowest
temperaturesetting(witharrowon dial)as shown.DO
NOT FORCE,
4.Turngascontrolknobclockwise_) to "OFF" posi-
tion. Knobcannot be turnedfrom "PILOT" to "OFF"
unlessknobis depressedslightly.DO NOT FORCE.

5. Waitfive (5) minutesto clearout anygas. If you then
smellgas, STOP!Follow"B" in the safetyinformation
aboveon this label.If you don't smellgas, go to the
nextstep.
6. Remove(or open)inner door located belowthe gas
controlunit.

9. Push in control knob all the way and hold down.
Immediatelylightthe pilotwitha match.Continueto
hold controlknob in for aboutone (1) minute after
thepilotis lit. Releaseknobandit will popback up.
Pilotshouldremainlit. If it goes out,repeatsteps3
through8.
If knobdoesnotpopupwhenreleased,stopand
immediatelycall yourservicetechnicianor gas
supplier.
If the pilot will not stay lit after several tries,
depressandturnthe gascontrolknobclockwise
_ to"OFF" andcallyourservicetechnician
orgassupplier.(Figure6,page17)
10. Replace(or close)inner door.Replaceouterdoorif
doordoesnotcovergascontrolon/offknobor tern-
peratureadjustmentknob.(Figureg,page17)
11. Atarmslen_lthaway,turngas controlknobcounter-
clockwise_ tothefull "ON" position.Warning
do not use gas control knob to regulate gas
flow. (Figure8,page17)
12. At armslengthaway,set the thermostatto desired
setting.The mark ( ) indicative of approximate
120°Fis preferredstarting point. Somelocal laws
mayrequirea lowerstartingpoint.If hotterwater is
desired,seeinstructionmanualand"warning" below.
13.Replacetheouterdoorifnot replacedinstep10.

•Iotter water increasesthe risk of scaldinjury.Beforechangingtemperaturesettingsee instructionmanual.
TO TURN OFF GAS TO APPLIANCE
1.Set the thermostatto lowestsettingby turningthe
watertemperaturedialclockwise(F_) to its lowest
temperaturesetting(with arrowon dial)as shown.DO
NOT FORCE,

tion. Knob cannotbe turned from "PILOT" to "OFF"
