BEFORE LIGHTING [PROPANE (L.P.) GAS WATER
HEATERS]:Propane(L.R) gasisheavierthanair.Shouldthere
be a leak in the system,the gaswill settle near the ground.
Basements,crawl spaces,skirtedareasunder mobile homes
(evenwhenventilated),closetsandareasbelowgroundlevelwill
serve as pocketsfor the accumulation of this gas. Before
attemptingto lightor relight thewaterheater'spilotor turning
on anearby electricallightswitch,beabsolutelysurethere isno
accumulatedgasinthe area.Searchforodorofgasbysniffingat
groundlevelin the vicinityof the appliance.If odorisdetected,
followstepsindicatedat "For YourSafety"onthecoverpageof
this manualthen leavethe premises.
Lighting and operating instructions are located on front of the
water heater, above or to one side of the gas control valve.

Followthegassuppliersinstructions.
If you cannotreach yourgassupplier,call the fire depart-
ment.
A WARNING
DO NOT force the gascontrol knob, Use onlyyour handto
pushit downto lightthe pilot, or to tom it to "ON", "OFF"
or "PILOT". Never usea tool suchasa lever,wrench or pli-
ers. Do not hit or damagethe knob.A damagedknob may
result in an explosionand serious injury.If youhaveproblem
turningthe knob, callthe gassupplierimmediately.
CHECK FOR LEAKS
Be sure to check all your gas pipes for leaks before lighting your
water heater. Use a soapy water solution, not a match or open
flame. Check the factory gas fittings after pilot is lit and gas con-
trol knob is still in "PILOT" position. Then, check the fittings
when the main burner is turned "ON". Use a soapy water solur
tion for this, too.
