AWARNING
At the time of manufacturethis water heater wasprovided

rials, as meeting the requirements for Relief Valves and
AutomaticGasShutoffDevicesfor Hot Water SupplySystems,
and the latest editionofANSI Z21.22and the coderequire-
mentsof ASME.If replaced,the valvemustmeet the require-
mentsoflocalcodes,butnot lessthana combinationtempera-
ture and pressurerelief valvecertifiedasmeodngthe require-
mentsfor ReliefValvesand AutomaticGasShutoffDevicesfor
Hot Water SupplySystems,ANSI7-21.22bya nationally recog-
nized tesdnglaboratorythat maintains periodicinspectionof
productionoflistedequipment or maten.'als.
The valvemustbe m_(ed with a maxmmumset pressurenot
to exceedthe marked hydrostaticworkingpressureof the
water heater(150 IbsJsq.in.)and a dischargecapacitynot less
than the waterheaterinputr_e asshownonthe modelrating
plate. (Electricheaters- watts dividedby 1000x 3415 equal
BTU/Hr.rate.)
Yourlocaljurisdictionalauthority, whitemand_ingthe useofa
temperature-pressure reliefwdvecomplyingwithANSI Z21.22
and ASME,may require a valvemodeldifferentfrom theone
fornished withthe water heater.
Compliancewith suchlocalrequirementsmustbesatisfiedby
the installeror enduseroftbe water heaterwitha locallypre-
scribedtemperature-pressurerelief valveinstalled inthe deslg-
natodopeningin the water heater in placeof the factoryfur-
nishedvalve.
Forsafeoperationofthe water heater,the reliefvalvemustnot
be removedfrom it'sdesignatedopeningor plugged.
The temperature.pressurereliefvalvemustbe installeddirectly
intothe flyingofthewaterheaterdesignatedfor the reliefvalve.
Positionthe valvedownwardandprovidetubingsothat anydis-
chargewill exitonlywithin 6 inchesabove,or at anydistance
belowthe structuralfloor.Be certainthat no contactismade
!withany ve eec_icalpart.The dschargeopenngmustnot be
iblockedor reducedin sizeunderanycircumstances.Excessive
length,over30 feet,or useof morethan fourelbowscancause
restriction andreducethe dischargecapacityofthe valve.
NoValveor otherobstructionisto beplacedbetweenthe relief
valveand the tank. Do notconnecttubingdirectlyto discharge
dralhunlessa 6"air gapisprovided.Topreventbodilyinlury, haz-
ardto life,or propertydamage,the raliefvalvemustbe allowed
to dischargewater inquantitiesshouldcircumstancesdemand.If
thedischargepipeisnot connectedto a drain or othersuitable
means,thewaterflowmaycausepropertydamage.

Must not be smallerin sizethan the outletpipesizeofthe
valve,or haveanyreducingcouplingsorotherrestrictions.
Mustnotbe pluggedor blocked.
Mustbeofmateriallistedforhot waterdistribution.
Must be installedsoas to allowcompletedrainageof both
the temperature-pressurerelief valve,and the discharge
pipe.
Mustterminateat anadequatedrain.
Mustnothaveanyvalvebetweentherelief valveandtank.
A,WARNING
The temperature.pressure relief valve must be manually
operated at leastonce a yea_ C_udon shouldbe taken to
ensurethat (I) no oneisin front of or aroundthe outlet of
the temperatum-preasure relief valvedischargeline,and (2)
the water manually dischargedwill not causeany bodily
injury or property damage because the water may be
extxemelyhot.
ff after manually operating the valve, it failsto completely
resetand continues to releasewater, immediatelyclosethe
cold water inlet to the water heater, follow the draining
instructions,and replace the temperature-pressure relief
valve with a new one.

At the time of manufacture,this water heater was providedwith a combinationtern-
perature-pressure relief valvelisted as complying with the standard for relief valves
andautomatic gas shut-off devicesfor hot water supplysystems,ANSI Z21.22. For
safeoperation ofthe water heaten the relief valve must not be removed from its des-
ignatedpointof installationor plugged.
Yourlocal jurisdictional authority,while mandatingthe useof a temperature-pressure
relief valvecomplyingwith ANSI Z2h22 andASME, may require a valvemodel differ-
entfrom the onefurnishedwith the water heater.
Compliancewith suchlocalrequirements must be satisfied bythe instaberor end user
of the water beater with a locally prescribed temperature-pressure reFief valve
installedin the designated openinginthe water heate_
