A,WARNING
BEFORE LIGHTING [PROPANE (L.R) GAS WATER
HEATERS]: Propane (I.R) gas isheavier than air. Should there
be a leak in the system, the gas will settle near the ground.
Basements, crawl spaces, skirted areas under mobile homes
(evenwhen ventilated), closetsand areas below ground leve_will
serve as pockets for the accumulation of this gas. Before
attemp_ng to light or relight the wZer heater'spilot or turning
on a nearby electrical lightswitch,be absolutelysurethem isno
accumulated gasinthe area. Searchfor odor ofgasby miffingat
ground level in the vicinity of the appliance. If odor isdetected,
follow stepsindicatedat "For Your Safety" on the coverpage of
this manual then leavethe premises.

Lighting and operating instructions are located on front of the
water heater, above or to one side of the gas control valve.
AWARNING
AN ODORANT IS ADDED TO THE GAS USED
BY THIS WATER HEATER.
FOR YOUR SAFETY
IF YOU SMELL GAS:
Do not try to light any appliance.
Do not touch any electrical switch; do not use any phone in
your building.
Immediately caJlyour gassupplier from a neighbor'sphone.
Followthe gassupplier_sinstructions.
If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire depart-
ment.

DO NOT forcethe gascontrolknob.Useonlyyourhandto
pushit downto lightthe pilot,or to tom it to "ON", "OFF"
or "PILOT". Never usea tool suchas a lever,wrench or pli-
ers. Do not hit or damagethe knob. A damagedknob may
resultin an explosionandseriousinjury.Ifyouhaveproblem
turningthe knob, callthegassupplier immediately.

CHECK FOR LEAKS
Be sure to check all your gas pipes for leaks before lighting your
water heater. Use a soapy water solution, not a match or open
flame. Check the factory gas ,fittings after pilot is lit and gas con-
trol knob is still in PILOT pos!tion,, Then, check the fittings
when the main burner is turned ON . Use a soapy water solu-
tion for this, too.
