TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE: ELECTRONIC GAS CONTROL SYSTEM
Note: Before troubleshooting the gas control system, make sure the external gas shutoff valve (located at gas supply inlet)
is in the “ON” position.
Important: Valve system troubleshooting should only be performed by a qualified service technician.
SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSES CORRECTIVE ACTION
1. Nothing happens when fireplace
is turned On/Off (pilot does not
spark).
A. Remote Control is not functioning
properly.
• Check that wall switchplate is set to REMOTE
(if remote was used).
• Operate replace from wall switchplate.
• Replace batteries in Remote Control and/or Receiver.
B. Gas is not reaching fireplace. • Check gas supply and gas shutoff valves.
C. Unit is not receiving power. • Check building circuit breakers to ensure power
is on to fireplace.
D. Damaged igniter wire. • Check for visible cracked casing, cuts, etc.
E. Damaged pilot assembly. • Check pilot assembly for visibly broken spark electrode, etc.
F. Batteries low. Check voltage on D.C. terminal of batteries in Remote Control.
The value should be around 3.0V.
2. Igniter is sparking, but main
burner does not light.
A. Gas is not reaching fireplace. • Check gas supply and gas shutoff valves (call a service
technician, if required).
B. Air in gas line. • Call a service technician.
C. Loose wires to valve. • Check control compartment for any obvious loose wiring
(call a service technician, if required).
Ensure blue and white (2) wires are securely connected to
valve (call a service technician, if required).
D. Loose wires to ignition module. • Check control compartment for any obvious loose wiring
(call a service technician, if required).
E. Loose sensor wire. Ensure sensor wire connection is secure to purple wire of
ignition control (call a service technician, if required).
F. Low voltage. Test voltage at AC terminals of module for 24 VAC. If no volt-
age, replace module (call a service technician, if required).
Check electrical connections between module and gas control.
If okay, replace gas control (valve) (call a service technician,
if required).
3. Main burner comes on,
but then goes out.
A. Gas is not reaching fireplace. • Check gas supply and gas shutoff valves.
B. Loose wires to valve or ignition
module.
• Check control compartment for any obvious loose wiring
(call a service technician, if required).
C. Pilot flame is not engulfing sensor. • Call a service technician.
D. Obstructed vent system. • Call a service technician.
4. Soot is present on logs and
glass.
A. Excessive flame impingement on logs. • Check for proper placement of logs, volcanic stone, and
ember material.
B. Improper air shutter opening. • Check for proper air shutter adjustment (call a service
technician, if required).
