Bradford-White Corp 9kW Water Heater User Manual

Excessive water pressure is not the most common
cause of relief valve leakage. It is often caused by
a closed system. A check valve, back flow
preventer or pressure reducing valve, in the inlet
system will not permit the expanded hot water
volume to equalize pressure with the main. A
relief valve must release this water or the water
heater and plumbing system will be damaged.
When such a condition is encountered, local
codes or inspection agency should be consulted to
determine which of the following procedures is
acceptable in your area.
Installation of an expansion tank.
Removal of the check valve.
4. Examine the flange area of the elements for
gasket leakage. Tighten the screw-in flange
or, if necessary, follow the Water and Lime
Scale Removal procedure to remove the
element and replace the O ring gaskets that
seal each element.
1. Place the water heater electrical disconnect
switch on the OFF position.
2. Contact your mechanical contractor or
service technician.
