If you do not follow these instructions exactly, a fire or explosion

A. This appliancehas a pilot whichmust be lighted by
hand.Whenlightingthe pilot,follow theseinstructions
exactly.
3.BEFORELIGHTINGsmellall aroundthe appliancearea
for gas. Re sure to smell next to the floor because
somegasis heavierthanairandwill settleonthefloor.
WHATTODOIF YOUSMELLGAS
Donottry tolightanyappliance.
Do not touch any electric switch; do not use any
phonein yourbuilding.
Immediatelycall yourgas supplierfroma neighbor's
phone.Followthegassupplier'sinstructions.
If you cannotreachyourgas supplier,call the fire
department.
C. Useonlyyour handto pushin orturn the gascontrol
knob.Neverusetools.If theknobwillnot pushin or
turnby hand,don'ttry to repairit,calla qualifiedser-
vicetechnician.Forceor attemptedrepairmay result
ina fire orexplosion.
D. Do not usethis applianceif any part has beenunder
water.Immediatelycall a qualified servicetechnician
to inspecttheapplianceandtoreplaceanypartofthe
controlsystemand any gas controlwhichhas been
underwater.
LIGHTING INSTRUCTIONS
1. STOP!Readthesafetyinformationaboveonthislabel.
2. RemoveouterdSor.
3. Set the thermostatto lowest setting by turning the
watertemperaturedial clockwise,(_) to its lowest
temperaturesetting(witharrowon dial)asshown.DO
NOT FORCE.
_,.Turngas controlknobclockwiseV 1 to "OFF" posi-
tion. Knobcannot be turned from "PILOT" to "OFF"
unlessknob is depressedslightly.DO NOT FORCE,
(Figure10,page18)
5. Waitfive (5) minutesto clearout anygas.If youthen
smellgas, STOP!Follow"R" in the safetyinformation
aboveon this label. If you don't smell gas,go to the
nextstep.
6. Remove(or open) inner door locatedbelow the gas
controlunit.(Figure13,page18) n _.

8.If youdon'tsmellgas,turnknobongascontrolcounter
clockwise_, to "PILOT"position.(Figure11,page18)
9. Push in control knob all the way and hold down.
Immediatelylight the pilot with a match. Continue
to hold control knob in for about one (f) minute
after the pilot is lit. Release knob and it will pop
back up. Pilot should remain lit. If it goes out,
repeatsteps3 through8.
If knobdoesnotpopup whenreleased,stopand
immediatelycall yourservicetechnician or gas
supplier.
If the pilot will not stay lit after several tries
depressandturnthegas controlknobclockwise
@) to"OFF" andcallyourservicetechnician

10. Replace(or close)innerdoor.Replaceouter doorif
door doesnot,covergascontrolon/offknobor tem-
peratureadjustmentknob.(Figure13,page18)
11. Atarms lengthaway,turn gascontrolknobcounter-
clockwise _ to the full "ON" position.
WARNING Do not use gas control knob to reg.
ulate gas flow. (Figure12, page18)
12. At arms lengthaway,set thethermostatto desired
setting. The mark ( ) indicative of approximate
120°F is preferredstarting point. Some locallaws
may requirea lowerstartingpoint.If hotter wateris
desired,seeinstructionmanualand"warning" below.
13.Replacetheouterdoorif notreplacedinstep10.
WARNING
Hotter waterincreases the riskof scald injury.Before changingtemperaturesettingsee instructionmanual.
For operationat outletwater temperaturenot inexcess of 180°F.
TO TURN OFF GAS TO APPLIANCE
1. Set the thermostatto lowestsetting by turningthe
watertemperaturedial clockwise(F_,) toits lowest
temperaturesetting(witharrowon dial)as shown.DO
NOT FORCE.
2. Turngascontrolknobclockwise_,) to"OFF" posi-
tion. Knobcannotbe turnedfrom "PILOT" to "OFF"
