Vermont Castings VCBVTN/TP & VCPVTN/TP Room Heater
Lighting Instructions
1. Read the safety information.
2. Make sure manual shut-off valve is fully open.
3. Push in gas control knob slightly and turn clockwise
to the OFF position.
4. WAIT 5 MINUTES TO CLEAR OUT ANY GAS. If
you then smell gas, STOP! Follow A in the safety
information. If you do not smell gas, go to next step.
5. Push in gas control knob slightly and turn counter-
clockwise to ‘IGN PILOT.” The pilot can be
seen through the glass panel. If needed, keep
pressing and turning the control knob counterclock-
wise until the pilot lights.
To Turn Off Gas To Heater
Turning Heater Off
Turn control knob clockwise to the OFF position.
Turning Burner Only Off (Pilot stays lit)
Turn control knob clockwise to the PILOT position.
CAUTION: Do not try to adjust heating levels by
using the manual shut-off valve.
NOTE: The thermostat has a sensing bulb and a
temperature control knob. The thermostat used on this
heater senses the room temperature and turns the
burner on and off. At times the room may exceed the
set temperature. If so, the burner will shut off. The
burner will cycle back on when room temperature drops
below the set temperature.

INSTRUCTIONS EXACTLY, A FIRE OR EXPLO-
SION MAY RESULT CAUSING PROPERTY DAM-
AGE, PERSONAL INJURY OR LOSS OF LIFE.
A. BEFORE LIGHTING smell all around the appliance
area for gas. Be sure to smell next to floor because
some gas is heavier than air and will settle on the
floor.
IF YOU SMELL GAS:
1. Do not try to light any appliance.
2. Do not touch electrical switches; do not use any
phone in your building.
3. Immediately call your gas supplier from a
neighbor’s phone. Follow your gas supplier’s
instructions.
4. If you cannot reach your gas supplier, call the fire
department.
B. Use only your hand to push in or turn the gas valve
control knob. Never use tools. If the knob will not
push in or turn by hand, do not try to repair it, call a
qualified service technician. Force or attempted
repair may result in a fire or explosion.
C. Do not use this appliance if any part has been under
water. Immediately call a qualified service technician
to inspect the appliance and to replace any part of
this control system and any gas control which has
been under water.

NOTE: If pilot does not stay lit, refer to troubleshooting
section and contact a qualified service person, or gas
supplier for repairs. Until repairs are made, light pilot
with match.
6. Keep control knob pressed in for 30 seconds after
lighting pilot. After 30 seconds, release control knob.
7. If pilot goes out, repeat steps 3 through 6. This
heater has a safety interlock system. Wait one (1)
minute before relighting pilot.
8. When the pilot is lit, turn gas control knob to ON.
Turn thermostat control knob counterclockwise
to desired heating level. The main burner
should light. Set control knob to heat level between
7 and 1.
