The original door opener works fine. Only the portable remote unit is defective. Is it possible to just program the system to use the replacement 3-function remote control?

0 The manual provided above appears to answer the question but after following the instructions explicitly, the learn button light comes on for 30 seconds but holding the remote large button never results in flashing of the unit light and the system will not operate from the new remote. It does operate perfectly from the fixed controller or with a separate portable controller used for an adjoining garage.
