WiththeUIcontrolsettoHEAT,yourunitwillnormallyoperatethe
electric heat pump until the room temperature is raised to the level
you haveselected.Ifthedemand forheatcannotbe metby theelec-
tricheatpump,yourUIcontrolwillautomaticallyswitchtogas heat
until the call for heat is satisfied.
On colder days, your system may automatically switch to gas heat
as the primary heating source to maximize the overall system effi-
ciency and maintain your comfort level.
MAINTENANCE AND SERVICE
This section discusses maintenance that should be performed on
your system.Mostmaintenanceshouldbe performed by yourdeal-
er. You, astheowner, may wish to handlesome minor maintenance
for your new unit.
Routine Maintenance
All routine maintenance should be handled by skilled, expe rienced
personnel.Your dealercan help you establish astandardprocedure.
To assureproperfunctioning oftheunit,flow ofcondenserairmust
not be obstructed from reaching the unit. Clearance from the top of
the unit i s 48 in. Clearance of at least 36 in. is required on sides ex-
cept thepower entry s ide (42 in. c learance) and the duct side (12 in.
minimum clearance).
Maintenance and Care for the Equipment Owner
Before proceeding with those things you might want to ma intain
yourself, please carefully consider the following:

When removing access panels or performing maintenance
functionsinsideyour unit,be awareofsharpsheetmetalparts
and screws. Although special care is taken to reduce sharp
edges t o a minimum, be extremely careful when handling
parts or reaching into the unit.

Air Filters
Theair filter(s) should bechecked every 3 or 4 weeks andchanged
or cleaned whenever it becomes dirty. Dirty filters produce exces-
sivestresson theblowermotorand can causethemotor to overheat
and shut down.
This unit must have air filters in place before it can be operated.
Thesefilterscan belocated in oneofat leasttwo places. I n many ap-
plications, the installer will provide return air filter grilles mounted
on the wall or ceiling ofthe conditioned structure.Intheinstanceof
filtergrilles,thefilterscan simplyberemoved fromthegrilleandre-
placed.
Theother typical application is an accessory filterrack installed in-
side the unit itself. The following information is given to assist in
changing filters used in these int ernal f ilter racks.
Ta ble 1 indicates the correct filter size f or your unit. Refer to Fig. 2
to access f ilters installed i n the accessory filter rack.

To replace or inspect filters in accessory filter rack (See Fig. 2):
1. Remove the filter access panel using a 5/16--in. nut dr iver.
2. Removethefilter(s)bypulling itoutoftheunit.Ifthefilter(s)
is dirty , clean or repl ace with a new one.
Wheninstalling thenewfilter(s), note thedirection ofthe airflowar-
rows on the filter frame.
If you have difficulty locating your air filter(s) or have questions
concerning pr oper filter maintenance, contact your dealer for in-
structions. When replacing filters, a lways usethesame s izeand type
of filter t hat was s upplied originally by the installer.

Never operate your unit without filters in place. An
accumulation of dustandlinton int ernalpartsof yourunitcan
cause loss of efficiency.

Fans and Fan
Motors
Periodically check the c ondition of f anwheelsand housingsandfan
motor shaft bearings. Contact your dealer for the required annual
maintenance.
Indoor and Outdoor
Coils
Cleaning of the coils should only be done by qualified service per-
sonnel. Contact your dealer for the required annual maintenance.
Condensate
Drain
The drain pan and condensate drain line should be checked and
cleanedat thesametimethecooling coilsarecheckedby yourdeal-
er.
Compressor
Allcompressorsarefactoryshippedwithanormalchargeofthecor-
rect type of refrigeration grade oil. A compressor should rarely re-
quire additional oil.
