How Does A Water Softener Work?
1. Hardwaterentersyourwatersoftener(1)andpasses
downthroughtheionexchangeresin,whichare
chargedwithsodiumions.Thehardwaterions
(calciumandmagnesium)areattractedtotheion
exchangeresinandanequalamountofsodiumions
arebumpedoffintothewatersupply.Whenthewa-
terreachesthebottomofthetank,itissoftenedand
readytobeusedinyourhomeandbusiness.
2. Whentheionexchangeresinforthetankinserviceis
saturatedwithcalciumandmagnesium(hardwater
ions)itmustberecharged.Thecontrollerautomati-
callyplacesthe“stand-byunit”tankintoserviceand
switchesthetankthatisinneedofrecharginginto
regeneration.(2)Astrongbrinesolutionentersthe
tankandushesthecalciumandmagnesiumionsoff
theionexchangeresinandattachesitself.
3. Analrinseprocessensuresthatanyunusedbrine
isrinsedfromthesystem.Thistankisnowfully
rechargedandplacedonstand-by,readytoprovide
youwithsoftwaterwhentheothertankbecomes
exhausted.
