FILTER MEDIA
There are three stages of filtration in the AMAIRCARE Air Filtration System.
Air is drawn into the top of the unit through the duct opening above the front
compartment and is exhausted through the duct opening above the rear fan
compartment. The three stages of filtration are as follows:
STAGE 1: As air enters the air treatment system it first passes through 3/16” thick
activated carbon impregnated non-woven polyester pre-filter. This first stage of fil-
tration removes the larger particles of dust and adsorbs[JPS1]* gaseous contami-
nants.
STAGE 2: After passing through the pre-filter, the air then moves through a high
efficiency particulate removal filter. The “HEPA” (High Efficiency Particulate
Arrestance) filter media is laser tested to remove 99.97% of the particles in the air
stream down to a size of 0.3 microns. Particles of concern which are normally in
this size range include pollen, household dust, cigarette smoke, bacteria, animal
dander, molds, etc.
STAGE 3: The clean air stream then passes through a 1/2” inner blanket of activat-
ed carbon impregnated non-woven polyester filter material. This final stage of fil-
tering adsorbs additional gaseous contaminants such as odors and toxic fumes.
SERVICE LIFE
The useful service life of the filter media in the AMAIRCARE Air Filtration
System is directly related to the volume of air passed through the system and the
amount of contaminants in the air. In a typical residential application, the Stage 1
and Stage 3 filter media should be replaced every three to six months. The Stage
2 HEPA filter should retain peak performance for a period of two to five years,
again, depending on the amount of particulate in the air and the maintenance
of the Stage 1 pre-filter.
