We bought a whirlpool water softner a few years ago at Lowe's and it works great, especially in winter to keep the skin a little softer. But, Someone mentioned to me that when watering the yard, I should use the bypass valve. I read the instructions and it shows the conical valve, but not how to turn it. Do you pull it out, puch it in, turn clockwise or counterclockwise? I don't want to force it and break it.
