Whirlpool oven/stove, model # RF385PXWN. It has a ...

Whirlpool oven/stove, model # RF385PXWN. It has a lever above the oven door that says "clean" on the face of lever, & it seems to lick & seal the door. When it is not latched the door seems loose and open a little where heat gets out, are we supposed to slide it & lock it when we are cooking? Or is it to use only when self-cleaning the oven?
