The circuit interrupter at the electrical plug of my Whirlpool window AC unit was melted beyond repair when the outlet got too hot, not while the AC running but from another device plugged into the same outlet. The hot and neutral wires inside the power cord are surrounded by stranded copper. Can the circuit interrupter be replaced with a conventional 3 prong plug? What to do with that bare stranded copper?
