I just moved into an apartment with a Trane BAYSTAT305 thermostat. How do I reset the range of temp so that my apt. stays within a smaller range? I took the cover off and saw the device that probably regulates this function, but I couldn't tell which direction to move it. How hard would it be to replace it with a programmable thermostat?

0 I had the same issue. The range of temp is called a "swing value". This is the amount in degrees the unit will vary between cycles. Mine was set to .5. When running heat it would get very hot in the apartment then not run again until it was very cool in here. To adjust this, behind the face plate there is a small square white area with an adjustment arm (see picture). Move this arm up to shorten the swing value and keep the rooms at a more constant temp. Mine is currently set just below .3 and it is comfortable in here now. By the same token if the unit is running to much, move the arm down to make it the time longer between cycles.
