Our Trane furnace is 9.5 years old. Thermostat is ...

Our Trane furnace is 9.5 years old. Thermostat is set at 70, but house temp. registers at most 67 and usually up to 6 degrees less. Could it be just that the return filter needs cleaning or perhaps coils need cleaning or would you suspect something worse?
