when installed in my new home, I noticed a small f...

when installed in my new home, I noticed a small flexible line also that connected to the right side of the fireplace. Is this a fresh air or combustion air line and also I see a sliding adjusting rod right under the model tag which has a screw in it to hold it in the position it is in right now, is this slider for adjusting fresh air?
