Question About Singer Sewing Machine 533
Problem with zig zag...

I just got the singer stylist 533 from a thrift store - came with the manual, case and everything. Perfect working order except the zig zag stitches are all messed up. I've tried adjusting everything just as the manual suggests but the stitches are either too tight or too loose - is there something I should check aside from the tension?
