i have a singer 404 machine that sounds a bit odd,...

i have a singer 404 machine that sounds a bit odd, on checking the plug there is no 'earth' wire and there are only 2 wires from the presser foot to the plug??do i need to upgrade the presser foot or dispose of machine note;the machine gets very hot and noisey very quickly
