Question About Shark Vacuum Cleaner EP750ST

I received a hand held vacuum for Christmas last year. I have re-charged the unit a couple of times. I made a note that you must charge for 16 hours. I have done this but when I got to use it, it's not charged. I have lost my manual so I don't know if I'm missing a step or if it's just worn out.
