after leaving the house for a day and turning the ac off we came back home and tried turning on the ac and it would only start for a few seconds and turn off over and over then we smelled smoke like something was on fire. We thought maybe we switched the heater on by mistake but we hadnt. and there was a terrible new noise. Also was curious to know how to tell how old the unit is.
