5 I'm hvac tech with 20 yrs exp you have to install a tap onto the refrigerant line first with a schrader attachment then connect either of the two outside hoses on a set of refridgerant to the schrader port then connect the middle hose onto a vacuum pump turn on the pump and open the valve on the side of the gauges that has the hose on the schrader port and it will pump down
