have a Craftsman 41A4315-7D garage door opener. All of a sudden it won't stay closed. The bottom of the door gets to within 12" - 18" from the floor, then suddenly reverses direction and goes back up. The light flashes about 8 0r 10 times, but it will stay up. It just won't go all the way down and stay down. I've check and double-checked to make sure there are no obstructions. Any ides?

5 I recently had to troubleshoot my own garage door opener. It's also a craftsman, but that doesn't matter. The 10 blinks after opening means that the beams were obstructed OR are not pointing at each other the whole time. Since this problem occurs as the door is almost closed, the vibration of the door may be causing the beam sensors to shake out of alignment. Then it opens back up. Look at the sensors, there should be a green LED lit up on each one indicating they are in alignment. If you block the beam, one will go out. If needed, have someone close the door while you watch to see which sensor goes out while the door is closing. Try to secure the screws holding the sensors in place to stabilize them. As a last resort, disconnect one sensor, add extra wire and hold it an inch from the other. Test door until it goes all the way down. --One sensor is a transmitter, one is a receiver. Make sure direct sunlight is not shining into the receiver. -- Adjust the down force on the opener if needed.
