Question About NuTone Fan Mercury
Air seems to be pushing back down into my bathroom...

Air seems to be pushing back down into my bathroom from through the small (1 inch) slits on either side of the ceiling fan plate. It is pushing back in more strongly than the fan is sucking air up. Can I just seal the toe small slits in the plate? This is an old mercury model, no light, and the motor is loud but other wise seems fine.
