Wiring from the thermostat to furnace not responding

0 Multiple thermastats put on. Work for a few minutes, then quit. Some times after removing the thermostat the two wires can be touched together and the furnace will fire. Once on it works like the Thermostat is on , just at a high temperature. Once disconnected it is hit and miss to get it to fire again.
