When trying to turn on the oven by pushing the pan...

When trying to turn on the oven by pushing the panel bake button on a maytag stove model mer5770aaq the display shows the words 'off'. After a minute the display 'off' resets. The oven or boiler will not work at all. The stove top burns are working fine. I'm guessing the control panel is defective.
