Model # AUV24M/UVM. Gas log appliance. I would like to know if it normal for the Mantel and the front of the fire place wall to get very hot?

5 Yes it is common. You may look in the owners manual to see required clearances. Typical clearance is for every inch the mantel protrudes from the wall it needs to be the Same distance from the top of the fireplace. You may check the actual temperature of the mantel too. Most wood spontaneously combusts at or slightly above 500 degrees F
