5 The remote is signaled by the receiver which is behind the bottom grill of the fireplace. Lift up the grill and pull it out. The receiver will be right behind the grill attached to the floor. The receiver may not be on or working properly so check if there is a bottom it it first. Or you may want to try the remote with the grill cover off. If it works then the receiver will have to be moved to detect the remote
