Question About Majestic Appliances Indoor Fireplace VF36
knob will not turn...

We just bought our home from a family my husband knows and while he is away I have been trying to use the fireplace but the knob on the unit will not turn without bending the metal! What do I need to do? Short of calling a tech I know it worked in April
