we are have the Firestar b-vent gas fireplace inse...

we are have the Firestar b-vent gas fireplace insert installed into an existing woodnburning fireplace. In order to do this need to have a gas line run to the fireplace. Do we need to drill through the masonry and put the gas vent into the existing fireplace or can it be placed in the floor next to the fireplace?
