4 I have the 1275 model and had the same problem. Just unplug unit and remove battery. Vacuum unit to remove any dust particles. Then hold down test button for about 1 minute. This is supposed to clear out the memory. If the battery is still good put back in unit or replace with good one. Make sure when installing battery that the polarity terminals on the battery match those on the battery cover. Putting the battery in wrong will cause it to chirp also. I did this for my unit and it worked. If this does not work you may need to replace unit.

4 My Kidde goes off at 2am, 4am, etc about once a month. Cats go flying, I am awake. Have cleaned, changed battery's at $4.00 a pop - to no avail. I will look for a new brand. Thanks for the info.

4 Replaced two old detectors with the Kidde i12060a and about 12 hours later one started to chirp. I bought another and replaced it and about 6 hours later both were chirping. Searched internet and found solution to random chirping for this model. You must remove 120 volt and battery power then hold down push to test button for 30 seconds. Then install, close battery door, restore 120 volt power and no more chirping. Apparently a code is stored in the detector when 120 volt power is applied before the battery is installed which causes the random chirping. This isn't in the enclosed manual. Thank you China!

4 When our Kidde 1276's started chirping I changed the batteries. However, this has never stopped the chirping. After about 1-week most of the Kidde's would stop chirping, but one of them is currently chriping and has been for almost 2-weeks. I would not recommend this smoke detector. Are there any recommendations out there?

2 It should not be this difficult to change a battery. These detectors are absolute junk and if you're building a home I would suggest you make sure they not only don't use this model but use a completely different brand. Absolute trash.

0 I have the same problem occasionally with my Kidde 1276's. After some frustration replacing batteries, hitting the test and hush buttons, etc., I noticed that the manual says that after the "hush" button is pressed the detector should silence but will continue to "chirp every 30-40 seconds for approximately 7 minutes." I think my alarms are wired together, so if one goes off they all may chirp. One battery tested low but I replaced the batteries in the two of the alarms alarms that are apparently wired together, and after a few minutes of "chirping" occasionally, they both became silent. The green test light was on, so I assume that indicates they are okay. "All quiet on the western front" now :). The intermittent chirping apparently also occurs after a routine battery replacement or removal of a battery to test it.

0 These are cheap (less than $10 in quantity to contractors) ionization only detectors. Replace them with an ionization/photoelectric model for fast flaming AND smoldering smoky fires.

0 Wow, 3 weeks of pain. I wish Kidde had the reset instruction in the manual for the i12060CA. I followed the suggestion on this forum of resetting it by unplugging AC and removing battery and then holding down the TEST button for 1 minute. Someone had suggested 15 seconds but that was not enough. For good measure the second time around I left it disconnected for 10 minutes before popping the battery back in and then reconnecting to AC and testing with the test TEST button. Chirping has stopped!
