5 It sounds like a faulty 3-way switch. Switching are incredibly simple and they often break just because of wear and tear. If you like to tinker with things, I'd pull the switch out and get a good look at it. With 3 way switches, there is one open position and two closed positions, click the switch one way and it will move to contact with one position, flip it the other way, and it will move to contact the other constant position. They're easy to take apart. If you'd like to avoid the same instance happening again, you can order your Kenmore part through Sears, and simply install it. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/brands/Kenmore-Parts?SID=PSx20071217x00001a&ibp-adgroup=Search_B_Kenmore&ibp-keyword=kenmore%20vacuum%20cleaner%20replacement%20parts&ibp-matchtype=b&gclid=CIrS-uTNvbwCFZPm7AodRGUAJg If your vacuum is still under warranty, I would do nothing and call the 800 number that came with it. It's usually on a stick on the vacuum cleaner. Usually they will send you a new refurbished vacuum and you simply ship your old one back in the box it came in. You definitely have options. Good luck.
