5 Hello, To change the belt, unplug the vacuum. Remove the wand from the bottom by pressing the quick release petal and lifting up on the wand (the petal is located at the base of the wand-press down). Turn the power mate base upside down and locate the 4 screws that hold the baseplate on. Unscrew all 4 screws. Now flip the base right side up. While holding the base of the swivel handle, press the handle release petal again and lower the swivel(push down). Now, you should see 2 rear latches at the bottom. Lift the rear latches up. There are also 2 side latches, on both sides. Grasp the side latches and pull out. Lift the cover upwards from the back to completely remove. You can now see the belt. If the belt is worn, it will be visibly melted, broken or just worn. To take the belt out, lift the agitator assembly out and remove the belt. Take note, that if you just ran the vacuum, the belt may be VERY hot! It's best to let it cool before handling. Now, replace with new belt( a CB-3). The belt goes over the motor drive, then over the belt bath. Be sure the belt attaches to the agitator. Also, make sure the agitator is clean and free of debris. Make sure all parts are back in place, along with the agitator. Line up the top cover and base, and rotate the cover back until the side latches snap back in place. Snap rear latches in place. Now flip over base, and replace the 4 screws. Now the handle should just simply snap back down into the base.
