Well, there I've done it again ! Did a super job of cleaning hoses & filters (there was a blockage at the hose end nearest the roller) and in trying to use my just cleaned vacuum noticed that although everything *sounded* right, little seemed to be getting picked up. Turned it upside down and observed that although I had nice suction, the *roller* wasn't rotating. I (unplugged) removed the bottom cover, was able to remove the roller (after noting the positioning of *things*) verified that motor shaft was turning - backed out, replacing everything in order . . . but the roller still wouldn't rotate. Here's where I got myself into trouble. On day 2, repeated the efforts of day one, with no success, and then started *monkeying around* with the 'tracking' of the belt (there are *two* spindles the belt rode, just outside the motor housing - one the main drive shaft off the motor, and the other beside the shaft on the side *opposite* the roller.) Tried working with the existing tracking, with no success, and then got the brilliant idea that the belt should only ride the drive shaft (No! The drive shaft spins normally . . . with the belt in a stopped mode . . . smoking a bit from where the shaft was spinning) Now . . . I have to *either* find the original/intended tracking for the belt, or, feign (total) helplessness and take the vacuum to Sears with the limp request to replace the *broken* (now departed) belt. Anyone have any suggestions ? Regards, Grampy (although 'she who must be obeyed' thinks the nickname *Grumpy* more appropriate.)
