5 Count down the minutes until the lock timer ends if the self-cleaning cycle is running. Your oven reaches extremely high temperatures during the cleaning and will not clear the lock to open until the cycle is both over and the interior temperature drops to about 500 degrees Fahrenheit. Press the oven stop or clear button for three seconds to stop the cleaning cycle. If the oven isn't too hot, the lock will immediately release, allowing you to open the door. If the internal temperature is too high, however, you must wait for the temperature to drop and the lock mechanism will automatically clear. Open the door to resume normal operation. Move the locking lever, situated just below the oven door handle, to the left if your Kenmore has a mechanical lock. Newer models unlock automatically upon the cleaning cycle's end. In that case, if the oven still won't unlock, proceed to other fixes. Set the oven to self-clean again and allow it to run for a minute or two, then cancel the cleaning cycle. In some instances, this will clear the lock mechanism and allow the door to open. Unplug your Kenmore oven or turn off the power supply at the circuit breaker box. Wait a couple of minutes, then resupply power and test the door to see if it will open. Check to make sure the oven is plugged in and the breaker is properly set -- not tripped -- if your Kenmore won't open and it hasn't just finished a cleaning cycle or if the door lock light (displayed as "DOOR LOC" on your oven) is unlit. Clear the lock mechanism -- as indicated by the DOOR LOC light -- by pressing and holding in the oven door light switch for 20 to 30 seconds. While the switch is depressed, the latch motor will gradually withdraw the lock, allowing you to open your oven door. The door lock is intended to lock down your oven when you don't want it to be used. Press the oven door light switch if your oven door won't close because the lock is partially engaged. Continue holding for about 20 seconds, or until the lock withdraws enough to close the oven door.
