5 My sewing machine had done this to me, too. Upon removing the bobbin, I discovered that some thread had caught in the metal case on which the bobbin rests. There is a tiny hook in the center that the thread travels around before being picked up by the needle thread to form the stitch. Also, check your bobbin itself. Feel around the outside. If you feel any nicks or burrs, throw that bobbin away and get a new one as the thread is catching on the bobbin itself and throwing the timing off. Check your needle to be sure there are no burrs or nicks on it. Always use a new needle with each project and if the project is a large one, you will have to change your needle a few times. Needles are not that expensive and make a world of difference in sewing. One more thing. If your machine manual shows a small "arm" that fits over the bobbin to hold it in place, and that you can remove for cleaning, be sure that it is inserted all the way in and holds the bobbin securely as this will cause the bobbin to "bounce" inside its metal bed and cause the thread to tangle up in the machine. I hope this helps!
